Sam's Word of the Week - Monday 9th May, 2005
Squelch (v)
The sound produced from treading in thick mud, a bucket of slime, or a pile of slugs. Lesser-known causes for this sound include dropping a walrus into a lake from a great height, diving headfirst into a small bowl of jelly, using a Care Bear as a toilet plunger, and also the hair product as it is put through Ian Thorpe’s new, “fashionable” mullet on Logies night. According to recent university studies, this sound is best created when sitting on large quantities of soggy turnip chips.

Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam!!
(This must be a quick comment seeing as though I am currently at work...)
Onomatopedia!! I thought I left that behind in yr 12 Standard English!!
I must say though, SQUELSH is a fantasmigorical word, being the first verb and all (I am not sure that "squelch" is a doing word, or that you can do "squelch"... But if you say it is a verb, then it must be a verb!
hey sam its alistair
soggy turnip chips yummy
its ali again
squelch is a verb when u actually make the sound
and the sound itself is a noun
little english lesson to take u back to your HSC days..... o damn now i remeber english in year 12, so glad its over:)

good one sam, sorry it was assulted by sexual assult assulting it's way through hungappa! It's an insult to mankind, turnip chips and squelching.
Good Job!
Hey Sam its Nay - why wasnt it in hungappa? get everyone to put in thumbs down or do hungappa surveys and complain on their survey. that way rivcoll wil no ppl read ur word and keep publishing it...did u ever find out what happened? - why it didnt get in? anyway just thought id let u know that since it wasnt in hungappa i did indeed look up the web for the defn. and ali is right - its a verb (verbs= display action, being, doing or ownership) when its being made but its a noun when you refer to it (noun=person, place, thing or idea). hows that..thats what i remember from grammar from grade 6!! eg verb: the feet squelched in the mud...the walrus went squelch..(not 100% sure on that one.) eg noun: squelch is a noise.
